Bruin Guardian Scholars Academy

The Bruin Guardian Scholars Academy ("BGSA") at UCLA is a transformative program dedicated to support high school youth in foster care through academic guidance, mentorship, and college preparation. Established in 2011, as a partnership between First Star, UCLA, and the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services, BGSA provides four years of dedicated support to help students excel academically and personally. BGSA's mission is to create a strong, supportive community where students can form lasting connections with peers and mentors, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support. Prepare students for future success by offering guidance on college admissions, career exploration, and professional development, ensuring they are well-equipped for the next steps in their journeys. Promote the overall well-being of students by addressing their emotional, social, and physical needs through comprehensive support services and wellness initiatives.
